Intersectionality is a sociological theory portraying multiple threats of discrimination when an individual’s identities intersect with multiple of minority classes such as: race, gender, age, ethnicity, health, sexuality and other characteristics. One advantage or positive aspect to the intersectional theory is that it acknowledges that there is more than a one size fits all experience. Speaker, Kimberle Crenshaw in her video The Urgency if Intersectionality (2016), uses the term intersectionality to deal with the fact that many social justice problems like racism and sexism are often over lapping, creating multiple levels of social justice. For example, a woman of color might face sexism in her workplace, which could be thought to be racism. In a similar way, a trans woman of colormight face very high levels of discrimination and threats of violence.
