Richard Cheng October 17, 2018 7280792 ENG 2131 - Fantasy Literature The Hobbit’s Fight or Flight J.R Tolkien takes a children’s story and reminds the reader that the main character is as clandestine and rational as anyone of the world. Bilbo Baggins the protagonist and hobbit of the story is: shorter than most, constantly homesick and as stubborn as a pony. However, he is as aspirational and story worthy as any Greek hero, for he overcomes any obstacle with luck, perseverance and a good willed heart. All while maintaining the aspirations of a sane person, who wants to live, as noted by his presence on Ravenhill, during the battle of the Five armies. Written by Tolkien (1937): On all this Bilbo looked with misery. He had taken his stand on Ravenhill among the Elves--partly because there was more chance of escape from that point, and partly (with the more Tookish part of his mind) because if he was going to be in the last desperate stand, he preferred on the whole to defend the Elvenking.
