1I would like to write a paper detailing the events that took place during the Iran-Contra Affair and the actions to Ronald Reagan that ensured the scandal was contained. The Iran-Contra Affair contains several components that, when discussed in detail, are key examples of greater policy choices for the Reagan Presidency. The Iran-Contra affair contained the freeing of Americans being held as hostage, which Reagan had to address on previous occasion in 1981. Furthermore, Reagan’s foreign policy is put on display in multiple continents during the conflict, as money given by Iran was funnelled to Nicaraguan anti-communist revolutionaries. I will also deal with the political fallout from the Affair, in which many pardons were given and convictionsvacated. I would like to further contrast this brand of government with the Republican ideal of Reaganism and the Democratic resistance to Reagan's hard-line diplomacy. I will follow the line of Presidents post-Reagan to show how Reagan’s policy affected each office directly. Lastly, I will deal with the idea of America's current President’s notion of “draining the swamp,” and the probable lack of feasibility of that prospect, as shown by Reagan’s cabinet. This main theme in this essay will be the effects of Reaganism throughout recent history,
