At this point he switches the meaning of the breaks to the instrumental portion of the song Verse 2 If your woman steps out with another man (That's the breaks, that's the breaks) And she runs off with him to Japan (That's the breaks, that's the breaks) He uses this as an example of a tough break And the IRS says they want to chat (That's the breaks, that's the breaks) And you can't explain why you claimed your cat (That's the breaks, that's the breaks) This is a reference to when people claim weird things on their taxes so they can get a tax break, but once the IRS finds out, you’ll be in a lot of trouble And Ma Bell sends you a whopping bill (That's the breaks, that's the breaks) With eighteen phone calls to Brazil (That's the breaks, that's the breaks) Reference to how expensive international calls can be And you borrowed money from the mob
