Many things have shaped the history of Wisconsin over the years. One such example is the paper making industry. Many areas of Wisconsin are ideal for paper mills to be operating, due to the existence of two major resources – rivers and forests. The forests provide the source to make the paper, and the rivers provide power by building dams. There are many paper mills throughout Wisconsin, most of them located either in the Fox River valley or on the Wisconsin River in central Wisconsin. There used to be many more mills all over the state; however, many of these have since closed for a variety of reasons. There is, however, one mill still operating that is isolated from these two regions – The Flambeau Paper Company in Park Falls, Wisconsin. Park Falls is a small town of 2500 people in north-central Wisconsin. Located on the Flambeau River and in a heavily forested area of the state, it provides a perfect setting for a paper mill. This mill goes back all the way to the 1890s, when Henry Sherry began manufacturing pulp at his sawmill in Park Falls. With this, the Flambeau Paper Company was
