LA Name: Noah Grinberg Mrs. Connolly Day/Date: Monday, December 3, 2018 OMM Answer the following in paragraph format. 1. Compare and contrast the movie to the book. The book and the film, Of Mice And Men, have similarities and differences. For example, the setting and the mood are different in the opening of the film as compared to the book. The film starts with a girl in Weed crying and running because Lennie wouldn’t let go of her dress, and it is ripped. The director might have done this to show the sequence of events. Next, Lennie and George are being chased out of Weed by the workers. This creates an intense mood. On the other hand, the book starts after that scene where George and Lennie are walking, and not much is happening. This makes the mood calm and relaxed. Also, some scenes are in the book and not the movie, such as Curley’s Wife calling Crooks the “N” word. This scene was probably omitted because the “N” word is really offensive, and the director did not want to offend anyone. The movie director also added some scenes to the movie that were not in the book, like George remembering Lennie while sitting on a train at the beginning and the end of the film. This scene showed George cared about Lennie and had a kind heart even though he used so much profanity towards Lennie. Although the book and the movie have many differences, but they are also similar. The character personalities are similar. Lennie is mentally challenged, strong, unaware of his surroundings, simple minded, and tactile, while George is alert, less strong, aware, and is always thinking on his feet. The order of the settings were different, but the same settings were included, such as, the ranch, Weed, and the Salinas River.
