Active Learning Assignment1. The US criminal justice system would be seen as harsher than the Finnish system. While both systems do “lock up” their inmates the Finns have a system that is more geared toward getting the inmates out and back into society. They do not have the cold hard look as that of US prisons with gates and fences surrounding the area. Finnish prison guards see themselves more as teachers whereas the US prison guard see’s themselves aslaw enforcers. Finland believes the loss of Freedom is the biggest punishment so they try and make it as nice inside their prisons as it would be on the outside. From my perspective, the Finnish system seems to be the most efficient at controlling crime because since enforcing this new more lenient system their population/crime rates seemed to have gone down. Of course there will always be those who take advantage of a more lenient system but it has saved many people from being imprisoned and saved money for the country as a whole. I believe it would be a slow process to transition this type of system into the U.S. but I do
