Sci-Fi Essay 2 In Minority Report, John experiences role conflict as he is a pre crime police officer but then sees himself committing a murder to someone he does not even know, making him a criminal. This makes him try to hide that specific pre-crime and himself until he can figure out whom the man he is set to kill is and why he is to kill him. John’s ascribed statuses are a middle age Caucasian male. His achieved statuses are a precrime officer, father to a deceased son, widower, and now pre-criminal. I believe Minority Report shows an example of organic solidarity because the community feels safe with the pre-crime unit doing its job. They have no worries of murders happen as they trust in the system their society has set in place. This society is based more on achieved statuses, most of the people in the society are strangers and little consensus exists regarding value making it a Gesellschaft society. As seen in the beginning of the movie when a gentlemen is arrested for a pre-crime; him saying he was not going to kill them did not get him out of being arrested nor did his wife try and save him from this, she accepted that he was being arrested. The most important primary group in this movie is the relationship between John and the director Lamar Burgess. This group becomes the most important as Lamar is very close with John and seemingly helping to figure out who is “setting him up” when it is indeed himself. The secondary group
