Motivating employees of a healthcare organization is important for the success of the organization. If employees are not motivated to support the budget, it will typically not be successful. As the nurse leader, discuss two strategies to increase employee motivation related to the budget process.Processes and standards are incorporated to prepare the budgets for healthcare organizations. Employees are the most important in the success or failure of any organization. A strategy to introduce the budget process to employees will motivate them to be more aware of the costs to operate the units, departments, and the organization. When employees are aware of standards, goals, and costs, they are more likely to feel empowered and support budget initiatives. Empowerment motivates employees to support the budget based on a shared responsibility, on-going support of the budget improvement actions, and achieving quality initiatives. Another strategy to increase employee motivation is to implement a method to set organizational goals and gain compliance through a shared incentive. The organization allocates a monetary bonus based on a percentage of individual hours worked over a twelve-month period provided goals aremet. For each goal that is met, a percentage is granted in a lump sum following the fiscal year. This helps gain buy-in for achieving goals and creating a sense of responsibility via a system of positive reinforcement. Three safety goals targeted to achieve the incentive throughout the entireorganization are reducing health associated infections, cost containment, and increasing new patient percentage by ten percent. Creating awareness increases productivity with the end goal ofa monetary incentive for everyone not just the leadership team. Providing incentives for the employees with initiatives throughout the organization produces engagement, reduces expenses, and improves profitability.
