Casey Kinner September 3, 2007 English 104 Definition Argument: Identity Essay 1 Masks I (author) am ugly as seen by: Others make fun of me for my looks. I do not look “normal”. My mother buys me turtlenecks to hide my scars. I feel embarrassed in front of crowds. I feel free and bold only when my face is covered with a mask. Essay 2 Census Race is a social notion as seen by: In today’s world, many people are not just one ethnic background. Marriage between two people of different ethnic backgrounds forces the child to choose his race. In American culture, we are encouraged to choose who we want to be. Who we choose to be is often different than how others label us. Essay 3 Fashion We are fashion victims as seen by: We spend time and money to look like we didn’t spend time and money. We desire useless items of clothing. We buy items that are nearly the same. Buy because we think a brand stands for something.
