Running Head: ANALYSIS OF THE COSBY SHOW AND EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS `2The sitcom reviewed in the essay is The Cosby Show, and Everybody Hates Chris.In The Cosby Show, the show is based on an upper-middle-class family known as the Huxtable family based in Brooklyn New York. The main cast involves Patriarch Heathcliff "Cliff" Huxtable is played by Bill Cosby who is the show plays the role of an Obstetrician and a Gynecologist and his wife Clair Huxtable, Phylicia Rashad, who is an attorney. Together the couple has four daughters Sondra, Denise, Rudy, and Vanessa and a son Theo. The show focuses mainly on the Huxtables nuclear family, but there is some focus on an extended family, Cliff's father appears in some of the scenes. Everybody Hates Chris is a show based on the childhood of Chris Rock as henarrates about his life in the show. The show is about the life of an awkward nerdy child Chris, played by Tyler James William and his family. Chris' father Julian acts the role of a frugal and miserly man who counts the value of everything in his house and also works four jobs. Chris' mom Rochelle is an overbearing and loving mother who through her hard work moves the familyfrom the projects to a new home. Chris ‘siblings include Drew who is the popular kid at school and Tonya who is daddy’s favorite and often the fussy child. The family structures in The Cosby Show and Everybody Hates Chris are different and similar in the following manner. The Cosby show revolves around a black and well-educated family, Mr. Huxtable is a physician, and Mrs. Huxtable is an attorney, the family is portrayed to be well off and living quite comfortably. On the other hand, Everybody Hates Chris portrays a poor working class black family with the parents having to work extra jobs to pay rent and put food on the table. In the Everybody Hates Chris show the family is simply living from paycheck to paycheck. The Cosby show bases its scenes on the life and the events that occur at the Huxtable's house with almost all scenes taking place at home. Everybody Hates Chris has a much wider setting, a lot of scenes also take place inChris' high school. In one particular scene, a bully calls Chris the N-word at school in a voice
