2 BIOL 3150: Microbiology Winter 201 9 Calendar Description: Fundamentals of microbiology; microbial organisms; microbe-host interactions; microbial genetics and evolution; microorganisms and human disease; environmental and applied microbiology. Three lecture hours, three laboratory hours. One term. Four credits. Prerequisites: One of the following: (1) SC/BIOL 2020 4.00 or SC/BCHM 2020 4.00; SC/BIOL 2021 4.00 or SC/BCHM 2021 4.00; SC/BIOL 2040 4.00; (2) if the 3 credit course is taken in either one or more of SC/BIOL 2020, SC/BIOL 2021, SC/BIOL 2040 3.00, then SC/BIOL 2070 3.00 is required. Course credit exclusion: SC/BIOL 3150 3.00. Course Director: Dr. Nicole Nivillac Lectures: Tuesdays 10:00-11:30 am CB 121 Thursdays 10:00-11:30 am CB 121 Laboratory Times: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 2:30-5:30pm or 6:30-9:30pm ----- The following items must be brought to every single lab session: 1. Lab Manual: Always bring the introductory material, the current and previous lab exercises and appendices. 2. Lab notebook: See specifications on p. 6 3. Lab coat: Essential you will NOT be allowed in the lab without one! (Available in the bookstore). 4. Safety glasses: Essential you will NOT be allowed in the lab without them! (Available in the bookstore). 5. Pen: Notes in your lab notebook must always be made in pen. ----- This manual is dedicated to the memory of Rena Singleton, greatly missed by staff, graduate/ undergraduate students and faculty in the Department of Biology.
