Bibiana Valenzuela9/8/18CRJ 419Discussion 1: Black Lives MatterBlack Lives Matter, in essence, is a member-led organization whose mission began as a call to action in response to state-sanctioned violence and anti-Black racism. It’s initial goal was to build local power and to intervene when violence was inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes (What We Believe 2018), by organizing peaceful direct actions with no links to terrorism or violence. The individuals that have carried out the criminal acts, are named by the FBI as Black Identity Extremist. An extremist is viewed as “a person who holds extreme or fanatical political or religious views, especially one who resorts to or advocates extreme action” (Extremist 2018). In my opinion, these two groups of individuals are two completely different groups that mistakenly getgrouped together by the media due to the fact that the members all feel verystrongly about their black identity.
