HOME GROWN AND HOMEWARD BOUND ATTACKS 2When the words Home Grown are mentioned, one usually thinks of produce that is grown in one's own garden, or local area/country (Home Grown n.d.). Recently, the term Home Grown is followed by the words Violent Extremists. Although there is no clear and measurable agreed upon definition, the FBI defines Home Grown Violent Extremists as "a person of any citizenship who has lived and/or operated primarily in the United States who advocates, is engaged in, or is preparing to engage in ideologically-motivated terrorist activities (including providing support to terrorism) in furtherance of political or social objectives promoted by a foreign terrorist organization, but is acting independently of direction by a foreign terrorist organization." (Bejelopera 2017). This FBI definition does not encompass the totality of the spectrum involved within the phrase, as it specifically talks about those individuals who are promoting a foreign terrorists organizations agenda. Lone Wolf Terrorism is not a new term nor threat to the United States. The first noted vehicle bombing, killing thirty individuals on Wall Street, occured in 1920.
