The loyalty of Kino’s family members encourages Kino to keep pushing through the hardships and suffering that the pearl is bringing. Kino is doing what he can about the pearl to bring fortune for him and his family. “Kino stepped with dignity out of the house, and Juana followed him… only one man walked with Kino, and that was his brother, Juan Tomas” (Steinbeck, Chapter 4, Paragraph 10). The support given to Kino was mostly from Juan Tomas and Juana. The two characters alone contributed greatly to Kino continuing to fight for and against the pearl. Although, the other characters also show support to Kino, such as Apolonia.
