Lab 4The PhotoConductivity of Silicon and Life-Time of ExcessMinority CarriersObjectives:The aim of this lab is to illustrate the photoconductivity property of silicon andalso to measure the life-time of the excess minority carriers present within thesemiconductor.IntroductionWhen a semiconductor material is illuminated, the photons receive sufficientenergy and additional carriers are generated. Hence the conductivity ()of thematerial is increased. Similarly in dark conditions, the resistivity ()is high andconductivity is low. In other words, 1/¿.This photoconductivity property ofsemiconductors can be used to determine the life-time of excess minority carriers.Procedure:Step 1:We start by placing a sample of Si on top if the connection box with rough side facing upwards.
