CHARACTERIZATION AND THE CHARACTER ARC The article explains how the reader has come across a character that has no empathy. The protagonist does not even relate to his loved ones and the friends. The reader is very skeptical about Robert visiting his wife. It comes after he is very much aware of the kind of relationship that is between Robert and his wife. For instance, he says, “I wasn’t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me” (34). It is very evident that the main character in this article is vulgar and selfish. He suggests that the only reason why he doesn’t Robert to visit is that they don’t know each other. It also means that he doesn’t care whether Robert is a friend to his wife. The point that the narrator is uncomfortable with the blind nature of Robert indicates portrays the incentive nature of the main character.
