Last Name 1 Describe the world you come from and how you, as a product of it, might add to the diversity of the UW. As a product of a Vietnamese suburb, school and family made up most of my life. I re- membered putting on white shirt and black pants everyday, walking down the street full of gray smokes released from motorbikes. The class I took was a typical Vietnamese class, with opened windows, fanned ceiling, white chalk, and blackboard. It was in there that I stayed all day long, with teachers coming in and out every period. Then not long after school, I had to attend “op- tional” -- though mandatory because you would not survive school without taking them -- night classes where one teacher spoke to fifty students through microphone. When I finally got home it was nearly nine o’clock, and to my delight the first sight I saw was my father smiling on his face,
