This preview shows page 1 out of 1 page.

Visual Inspection Method: flashlight and magnifying glass, then look at material with eyes. Application: every inspection should utilized this method. Cost: Lowest Advantages: Lowest cost, uses common tools Disadvantages:Not accurate in detecting complex, microscopic or internal flaws. Magnetic Particle Inspection Method: Magnetic field established using ferromagnetic material to create lines of flux that are distorted by cracks and voids. Magnetic detection devices are used to analyze and display flux leakage. Application: ferromagnetic component testing Cost: Low Advantages: Large areas inspected quickly. Disadvantages: Only application is ferromagnetic materials. Correct alignment of magnetic fields must be achieved for test to work correctly. Radiography Method: Test material between a radiation source and a detector. Application: Detects surface and subsurface defects. Measuring thickness of materials. Cost: Highest, requires a radiation source/specialized operator.
