Red Desert Second Response: The film Red Desert is a great film, but very attentive. It has a lot to do with the relation of colors and feelings, so I will discuss postfilmic work and the reference of the colors. The postfilmic work in this film conveyed many emotions and the sounds seemed emphasized. For instance, the sound design blends a foley of industrial machinery and urban sounds with ghostly ship horns. The ghostly ship horns are what were emphasized the most. The horns were played a lot throughout the film and it seemed like the horns called attention to how invasive industrial factories can and will be as we discussed in class. Also, the sounds that were played in the background of the scenes Giuliana was in put more of a perspective on her confusion. The biggest take on this film is how the colors “painted” a more vivid picture. As Michelangelo Antonioni’s first color film he wanted to utilize every inch of the screen with colors (Not-Critical). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
