Divorce Italian Style Second Response: In Divorce Italian Style, directed by Pietro Germi in 1961, was an Italian comedy and drama that followed the main character Ferdinando Cefalù throughout his love life. Even though there is a lot to talk about I will discuss why this film was shown in this course, cultural construction, major references, comments on postfilmic style, morals, and the feelings the film evoked . This film was shown in this course to show a different perspective of dysfunctional relationships by Pietro Germi. The filmmakers constructed a negative image of the country. Every character in the film seemed to have some type of problem surrounding them. Ferdinando and Rosalia had their own issues with keeping secret lovers away from one another. Ferdinando’s sister had relationship problems with her boyfriend who runs a funeral business (TvTropes). Ferdinando’s uncle, Don Calogero, had issues with Ferdinando’s father (Ferdy).
