Warren Curry Period 2 nd 1/22/19 Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a disorder that affect women/girls in their reproductive stages which can affect them in many ways. It can affect women hormone balance and disrupt their ovulation, which can lead to irregular menstrual cycle(period). Also, PCOS can have effect on: weight gain, acne, excessive body or facial hair, and cysts (fluid filled sacs). Causes of this disorder isn’t known. PCOS can have effect on multiple organs as in skin, pineal, pituitary, thyroid, thymus, adrenal, pancreas, and ovaries. All these organs being affected can have effect on multiple different hormones as in estrogen, progesterone, and androgens. The number one organ that is affected by PCOS is the females Ovaries because it doesn’t produce hormones need for their ovulation, but the ovary becomes large and start to develop small fluid filled sacs (cysts). Which in regard it effects the androgen hormones increase which can interfere with the menstrual cycle (period).
