There are times while working as a human service professional I might be perceived as the oppressor to an interviewee. Although that is not my mission as a professional, I see where it might happen. Most professionals in human services fields are perceived as an oppressor until they have gained the clients trust through building a relationship. Oppression is a form of injustice that occurs when one social group is subordinated while another is privileged, and oppression is maintained by a variety of different mechanisms including social norms, stereotypes and institutional rules. [Wik] To me the term oppressor means someone of power. I would not want my interviewee to see me as someone of power because they will not be comfortable with me and allow me to view the real them. When people view you as a person of power, they tell you what they think you want to hear and not the true story because they are afraid of the judgement from the oppressor.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
