Class 3 Wednesday, January 18, 2017 4:01 PM To talk about today: The Beatles in Hamburg Germany The Beatles fusing style (whether musical or their look) St. Pauli & The Cavern 1960 Pete Best joins the band as drummer so they could go to Hamburg, Germany Pete was the sexiest guy in the band, loved the most by women fans, which led to jealously from the other Beatles Pete was a good drummer, but not great or versatile, but they needed him Pete's mother Mona started the Casbah club, the home base for the Beatles in the summer of 1959 Pete had a drum-set (rare thing at the time) The Beatles go to Hamburg Driven by manager Allan Williams On the way, John stole an instrument he would later use to record an album Style Coming out of Liverpool, wore drainees (tight pants, at the time), white jackets, black shirts (the teddy look) Started at "inja?" club - would play all by themselves, 4 or 5 sets Then had to switch to the Kaiserkeller , where the played alongside Ringo Star's band Ringo Star aka Richard Starkey got his name because he wore a lot of rings and because he used to get his "star" time by playing a 10 minutes drum solo while the rest of the band took a break Ringo was the best drummer in Liverpool Pete would get tired (because he didn't take amphetamines) and Ringo would start to sit in for him Ringo Star Oldest of the Beatles Only child from a poor family in one of the roughest parts of Liverpool Didn't start playing music until his mid teens, when the skiffle craze started This was because he was ill for most of his childhood, and because drums were very expensive Joined the Beatles at the start of their EMI recording career Beatles looked up to him, thinking he had already made it Ringo was playing with a band called "Rory Storme" when he was playing at the Kaiserkeller and first got to know the Beatles Rockers and Exi's
