Julia Stanley - Mother, very important person in John’s life Fred Lennon - Father Lennon's parents met at 16, the day Fred was released from orphanage, Fred became steward on ocean liner Not a mature couple John born during WWII, mother gave John middle name of Winston after Churchill Fred was gone at sea when John was born, deserted his family for a few years, then came back and offered to take John with him out to see a couple years later. Started to leave with Fred, then went screaming all the way home after reneging on his decision. Later in life, John had real abandonment issues due to occurrences like this. Julia turned her son over to her sister, Mimi, who raised John. Aunt Mimi and Uncle George Smith 251 Menlove Ave - “MENDIPS” name of the house Mimi’s house where John was raised, later did an album of covers of songs that influenced him while he was a teenager under the address name, after the Beatles had broken up The Smith’s were upper-middle class, owned a dairy Aunt Mimi raised John strictly. John attended Dovedale Primary School. In 1956, John was aged 16, three important musical events effected him very much. 1. Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis Presley - instigated a lot of thought processes in young John as a result of these things and others Started first band, a skiffle band, The Quarrymen, named after school, Quarry Bank High School, with Ivan Vaughan , Pete Shotton , Nigel Whalley Paul McCartney was brought by Ivan to hear the band play, Paul was interested in picking up girls, but picked up the guitar and mic and was extremely talented.
