Civ: Review and Munford Bacon’s Rebellion: The colonies are being pulled more strongly into the British state. Britain doesn’t want the colonies to do whatever they want. Aftermath of Bacon’s rebellion: British government gets upset. Thinks rebellion is a disaster. They pull together a regiment of troops and bring them over to Virginia. Colonel of regiment takes over. Then a civilian governor. Culpepper - submit laws and legislature passes them. Internal Virginia resists. Lengthy confrontation between Culpepper and his successors against the colonists. Supply of servants is drying up. British economy is growing fast so more jobs. Need labor in Britain. Planters turn to African slaves for more labor. Royal African Company: Monarchical slave trade Upheavals in New York and Maryland Early 18th Century - The Great Awakening Jonathan Edwards - Narrative of Surprising Conversions: He’s a congregational minister and a Calvinist. He was from Massachusetts and well educated. An important intellectual figure on the Calvinist side.
