Briana Bing Pre-Lab #8 November 5, 2018 Part 1: Title: Volumetric Glassware Objective: To determine the accuracy and precision of a 5.0 mL volumetric pipette. Hypothesis: The volume the pipette should produce is 5.0 mL each time it is used. we will complete five trials where we measure the mass of water in the full pipette. Mass will be used to calculate volume by measuring the temperature of the water and using the known density of water at various temperatures. Density is an intensive property, because it does not vary with amount. Mass and volume, however, are both extensive properties because they are determined by the amount. (D = m/v) Variables: The independent variables are the pipette, and the theoretical volume of water measured, because we specifically measure 5 mL of water each time. The dependent variables are the mass and density and the actual volume of water, which we calculate. Experimental Procedure: - Record the mass of a 50 mL Erlenmeyer flask - Fill the 5.0 mL volumetric pipette to its calibration line, and add it to the clean and dry Erlenmeyer flask - Record the mass of the water and flask, and determine the mass of water by difference -

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
