General Motor (GM) was founded in 1908 to bring together many different automakers under one umbrella. These automakers were Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Pontiac, and other autos as well. It introduced the electric starter in 1912 in the Cadillac vehicles, GM stayed in headquarter in Detroit, Michigan and in 1918 Chevrolet joined the ranks as well. In 1920 under the direction of Alfred P. Sloan GM was reorganized into a single enterprise that consisted of these five vehicles companies, Pontiac, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Buick and Chevrolet. This moved them into a more organized enterprise with a central corporate office that was in charge of running all operations. This led to other US enterprises to be organized in a similar manner. General Motors was a staple of American enterprise and blue collar work, all of the factories were in the United States and the company was well known as an American brand. All that changed after the mortgage crisis in 2008 when the automakers were struggling to stay afloat. President Bush passed a bill that gave GM 13.4 billion dollars to make it financially
