Chapter 1 Discussion questions 1) What forces have been driving the increased internalization of business? There are a lot of forces driving increased internalization of business. Some of them are: decreased trade barriers through trade agreements and treaties, need for new markets and reduced costs, increasing global communication, the development of transportation, knowledge sharing across border, homogenization of culture and consumer demands and the most important, increased travel and migration. 2) What are the various organizational situations in which an HR manager might be involved with aspects of internalization? In the example of home-country subsidiaries of foreign-owned firms, HR manager might be involved with aspects of internalization. In this case HR manager would work in his home country and be employed by local subsidiary or acquisition of a foreign MNE.
