2 Running head: Air pollution The definition of air pollution as per World Health Organisation is the existence of material in the air which are in concentrations which are harmful to human beings and their environments. The presence of foreign materials, e.g., particles, gases amongst other contaminants in the air pose adverse effects on man, vegetation, animals, etc.The major activities and processes which cause pollution from the local industries include the production of energy which involves massive combustion of coal, natural gas, petroleum, and wood.The use of various engines from automobiles, trains,aircrafts thermal plants, kitchens and agricultural incinerations, etc. also stand at the front line as one of the major sources.Also, metallurgical activities which include processing in the industries leads to the emission of dangerous fumes which contains mineral particles/ dust, fluorides and sulfides and metal contaminants, e.g., cadmium, beryllium, nickel, lead, mercury, etc. Tesla Inc is a facility based in California which deals with the production of automobiles.The facility has a list of contaminants which it emits which include Chromium compounds which in about 150lbs is released annually.Methyl Methacrylate is another major pollutant which amounts to 100 lbs per year. 1,2,4 Trimethylbenzene which is released to levels of over 200lbs annually seems to be the major pollutant released by the facility.
