EFFECTIVENESS AND ACCREDITATION 2 Abstract This paper explores how institutional effectiveness differs from accreditation. It will also analyze the accreditation requirements higher education institutions must meet in order to engage in institutional effectiveness and a defense of how mission, vision, and core values should fit into institutional effectiveness. Finally judging which institutional effectiveness planning and evaluation processes are most important for attaining continuous improvement across a higher education institution and for maintaining its accreditation.

EFFECTIVENESS AND ACCREDITATION 3 How Institutional Effectiveness Differs from Accreditation Institutional effectiveness is the process that contains preparing, assessing programs and services, categorizing and evaluating learning results, and using data and assessment results for making choices that result in enhanced programs, services, and institutional quality. Institutional effectiveness is a wide-ranging umbrella conception. Institutional research (IR) offices are significant donors to institutional effectiveness. Often the institutional effectiveness is managed by the IR office, but even if not, IR delivers precise, well-timed, and unbroken data based on pure and uniform operational definitions. Accreditation is a procedure in which the ability and reliability of an institution is determined by peer assessment. Institutions freely elect to be assessed and are expected to be able to make apparent that their programs contain detailed features before they're allowed to become members of the association of accredited institutions. There are two types of accreditation. The first is institutional accreditation, which means a whole school is accredited. That presents a great level of credibility on a university as a whole.
