Briana Bing February 7, 2019 Pre- Lab #12 Part 1: Title: Using the Ideal Gas Law to find absolute zero and the molar mass of magnesium. Objective: The objective of this part of the experiment is to determine absolute zero by studying the relationship between air temperature and air pressure. Hypothesis: Measuring a range of air temperatures and pressures, while keeping the volume and moles of gas constant will make it possible to determine absolute zero. At absolute zero, the pressure of a gas is also zero. By graphing temperature vs. pressure and extrapolating back to a pressure of zero, an experimental value of absolute zero will be obtained. Absolute value will be found at -273.15 C. A gas at absolute 0 will not exert any force on the container. Variables: Temperature is the independent variable and pressure is the dependent variable. Temperature will be on the y-axis of the graph to simplify the math. Experimental Outline: - First, fill a 400 mL beaker with 250 mL of water and add a stir bar. This is placed on the hot plate is left off.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
