Justin Giese September 6, 2018 Kalila Bohsali English 110.043: Accelerated Composition Tennis Boys, A.K.A “T-Boyz” When one thinks of high school the usual first thoughts are of cliques, but what most students experience is much different, discourse communities. Rather than groups of individuals displaying dominance and bullying, these groups display a sense of belongingness, unique culture, and values. Cibola High School’s sense of community was evident throughout the various clubs, activities, sports, and friendships. Despite the shared interests of friendship and amusement between Cibola’s groups, the population that made each group was diverse and unique. Although these groups had many differences, there was a common pattern between them all. They all shared their own sense of value, hierarchy, and communication. Entering a new environment, like high school, can be very overwhelming, stressful, and can leave one feeling lost and alone. The driving reason behind why many students join certain discourse communities is for a sense of purpose and value. Students who share common goals
