Brianna O’Reilly IC230 Jan, 18, 2019 “Queen of Spades” In Pushkin’s “Queen of Spades”, there are character which if taken out of the story, the story would no longer make sense. One of these characters goes by the name of Hermann, he is considered to be the protagonist of the story and he is a military engineer, and ends up to start to gamble. He becomes inspired after hearing the story about the three cards that allowed Countess Anna to repay a large gambling debt. This sadly lead him to showing up in her bedroom, demanding to know the cards, which resulted in Harmann killing her. Another character would be Lizaveta Ivanovna, which is the foster child of Countess Anna, and is the one who knows about the secret about the three cards. She ends up falling in love with Hermann, which he then uses her to find out about the three cards. In the end, she ends up marry a young man. Countess Anna is one of the main characters, who is the one who conducted the three card combination.
