Holistic Nursing Principle Application of these principles Action/Intent for your own practice Person Various people are the recipients of holistic nursing (Dossey & Keegan, 2015). The most important part of this principle is that all people, regardless of race, sex, background, etc. deserve being treated equally and holistically. Co-workers that we work with and interact with on a daily basis also deserve the same holistic approach. I recently had a patient that died from complications on a routine surgery, who was very young and pregnant and left behind her family and child. Death is a part of life, and happens in all aspects of healthcare; but this one hit me hard, and has affected me tremendously. When I read this principle I think that In my own practice, I intend on following all aspect of the person principle. When I do my pre-op interview for surgery, I plan on including the patient and their family, and taking more time (even an extra 5 minutes) to sit down and hear their fears or
