The read position will be at the beginning of the first item when a file is first opened for reading. 4. If an existing file is opened in append mode, any information written to the file will be added on after the file’s existing contents. 5. If a file does not exist and a program attempts to open it in append mode, a traceback message error will appear saying there is an IOError.
