OCE 2001 Bolton Exam I Study Guide 1. Exam will be Scantron and include multiple choice, matching, and true and false. Please make sure you bring a green Scantron and at least one #2 pencil. 2. Please make sure you are on time - NO ONE will be allowed to begin an exam once any student has left the room. Make sure cellphones are turned off and put away. 3. Your choice of project topic and partner (s) must be made known the day of the exam . A timely choice is worth five points of the project grade. Study Questions for Chapters 1-4 1. **Make sure you know the definitions to any of the vocabulary discussed in class and in your notes. 2. What is oceanography? From where does the word ocean derive? 3. What are the comparative size and general characteristics of the major ocean basins? 4. Be able to match the names and peoples given in the history of oceanography with their contributions. What where the contributions of the Polynesians, the Vikings, the Greeks and the Chinese, etc.? 5. What are some of the tools invented to aid in oceanic navigation? What is an astrolabe, sextant, marine chronometer? If discussed, who was responsible for their invention?
