Lecture 7: Testing & Assessment OTDs: 1. Understand the advantages/disadvantages within the different types/categories of assessments. 2. Understand the distinction between the content and process of assessment. Objectives: 1. Given a description of an assessment, able to accurately identify the specific characteristics of that assessment. 2. Given a question about the difference between the content and process of assessment, you will be able to describe the differences between content and process, explain why it matters, and provide an example. 3. Specific type or characteristic of assessment content, able to select the most accurate factual statement. 4. Given a question/description about the method used to gather data from an individual, you will be able to accurately identify the assessment process used to collect that information. I. Foundations of Assessment - Variety of methods and approaches for measuring predictors and individual differences, some are better than others - Assessment: systematic procedure to measure psychological construct & describe it with numerical scales or categories - Test= assessments= measurements - What do we access? (1) Individual differences that are predictors of performances (2) Performance criteria needed for evaluation (3) Assessment target of organizational decision should be based on a job analysis - Where do assessment come from? Specially made by an employer/ consultant to fit needs of position Pre-existing assessments purchased or administered by consultants (mostly Buros center for testing) - Mental Measurement Yearbook- reviews of published tests (3000+) by testing experts (Buros) -
