6 Torque-Speed Curve The performance of motors are usually portrayed graphically in the form of a family of torque-speed characteristic. The Torque-Speed Curve gives how the torque supplied by the motor varies as a function of the speed of rotation of the motor for steady-state speeds for a given input (e.g., motor voltage or current). This graph will vary depending on the type of motor. Torque-speed curve of motor

8 Operation Point Electric motor torque T M Torque load T L (e.g. fan) Speed Torque T M T L At this point T M = T L , and acceleration ceases Accelerating torque T M - T L T M - T L The motor operates where the torque-speed curve of the load and he motor intersect.
9 Using Torque-Speed Curves Two main operations regions: I. Start Up Torque This is the torque required to change a speed in a motor.

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
