Standard Reference Terminology Anatomical Reference Axes When we are talking about the anatomical movements, we talk about them in terms of plane they are occurring based on anatomical position o Most of abduction/adduction occurs in frontal plane o Flexion/extension are mostly occurring in the sagittal plane That motion is occurring around an axis An imaginary axis of rotation that passes through a joint to which it is attached o Mediolateral If we think of flexion/extension occurring in sagittal plane but occurring in the mediolateral axis o Anterioposterior Imagine a rod going straight through the shoulder That is what adduction/abduction rotating around in the frontal plane o Longitudinal axis Axis that is superior/inferior and get longitudinal rotation around that Pronation and supination 2. Mechanical Foundation: Kinematic Framework As I move we can see that these axis changes in respect to the movement o There’s issues associated with that we also have to think of the body in terms of vertical/horizontal or x/y/z o that is a mechanical foundation for the kinematic framework we have to understand that there are different forms of motion a) Forms of Motion i) Translation o movement from one place to another where all points move through the same distance all parts of the object move the same amount in this vertical/horizontal space o all aspects of the object move in our vertical/horizontal space in such a way that all parts move together can either be linear or curvilinear either way move at same distance and velocity a) Forms of Motion ii) Rotation o

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
