FINAL EXAM  8510 Fall 2016: NMR-SECTION Please read questions carefully and answer precisely.  (% refer to the NMR section only…) Name: ANSWER EITHER 1 or 2 1. (8pt) Molecular modeling predicts that a 23-residue peptide has a structure. NMR experiments are performed to determine the structural details. Despite the fact that all NMR experiments were carried out correctly, you could not observe any long range NOE's, moreover, the NH coupling constants were all in the range of 7 Hz. Also, the NH temperature coefficients were all the same. What can you conclude from the NMR data? 2. (8pt) In the proton spectra of free amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine the chemical shifts of the methyl protons occur from 0.9 to 0.97 ppm. In a protein it is common to find methyl proton resonances from these residues at chemical shift of -0.5 to + 0.5 ppm. Explain the reason for this observation. Upon denaturation the upfield shifted methyl resonances revert to "normal" chemical shifts.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
