The film, “Crossing Arizona”, put into perspective how immigration affects everyone involved such as border patrol, the farmers, citizens, and most importantly the migrants. For the migrants, in the film, I noticed how many of them were encouraged to cross the border due to lack of jobs in Mexico. Also, need for money and security. These were push factors. In the United States they believed that jobs were available. In fact, where some farmers found it a hassle for the migrants to come over, other farmers benefited from the cheap labor. Jobs were a pull factor. When the issue of prop 200 came up stereotyping and prejudice was evident. When the young lady went up to the older woman’s door, the older woman got upset and accused Mexicans of stealing health care. This is very common. Often people like to blame immigrants for things that are out of their control. It’s like when things are bad someone has to be blamed for it and most of the time it’s the minority.
