Tess Del Rio Applied Textile & Design COLORFASTNESS TO CROCKING- WET AND DRY We are always warned from a very young age to avoid putting bright colored fabrics in with our white clothing. colorfastness, the process of certain dyes leaking off of fabrics and transferring onto others, most commonly occurs when certain fabrics are rubbed against each other in a crocking motion while in the wash, causing our white load with a secret red sock turn- ing everything pink. Due to the fact that nylon absorbs dye well, I don't think that will transfer onto the white cotton. Polyester and rayon on the other hand, is a slightly different story. Polyester, while known to resist stains, in turn does not dye easily. It requires a very high temperature for it to ab- sorb and even then it may not fully absorb it. Rayon can be known as a problem fabric too, how- ever, mainly natural dyes (for cotton) are the ones that don't bond to. Rayon dyes most beauti-
