REFLECTIVE ESSAY 2 Reflective Essay This week we’ve been discussing the development of nursing knowledge. One thing that I have learned through experience is that amongst other things, the nursing profession is an experience and skill-based profession. As a new graduate it isn’t uncommon to feel uncomfortable in a situation that is unfamiliar or a first-time experience. In this essay, I will discuss as situation in which I felt unprepared and will use Carper’s Patterns of Knowing. Explanation of Situation Situation that happened to me that left me feeling unprepared was when I was a fresh new grad working on the Cardiovascular Stepdown unit. I was done with orientation. I completed my basic telemetry and dysrhythmia course as well as my Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. So, no more preceptor no more shadowing. Never witnessed a code blue before and that was my biggest fear with being off orientation and finally being on a patient assignment alone. This was a typical night.
