Divya Dadar Metabolic Processes OVERVIEW OF CELLULAR RESPIRATION Cellular Respiration Photoautotrophs - Responsible for the conversion of sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into an energy storage molecule = carbohydrates Heterotrophs - Obtain the energy they need to survive feeding on other organisms and breaking down the carbohydrates they consume Aerobic cellular respiration - Only about 40% efficient - Many enzymes, coupled reactions and metabolic pathways - Aerobic means in the presence of oxygen - Cellular respiration refers to the following chemical reaction Energy - Free energy is released in the combustion of glucose - Electrons move from the free energy in the C-H bonds of glucose and O-O bonds of oxygen to a more stable configuration in the C-O bonds of carbon dioxide and to O-H bonds of water - The activation energy of combustion and the use of specific enzymes allow the cell to control the reactions of cellular respiration GLYCOLYSIS Stages of cellular respiration - There are four stages to cellular respiration 1. Glycolysis- 10 step process occuring in the cytoplasm

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
