What is the difference between quantitative and qualitative research? Visit the Libraryand locate at least one research article that used quantitative research methods and another that used qualitative methods. Why did the researchers use the chosen method to complete their research? Was it effective? Class,Research data is typically obtained in one of two ways; either through quantitative research or through qualitative research. Though similar in that both methods can be used to attain data about a particular subject, there are distinct differences between quantitative and qualitative data and how they are obtained. A generally accepted rule is that if data is in numerical form it can be considered quantitative while non-numerical can be considered qualitative (McLeod, 2017). Some methods used to gain qualitative data are interviews, surveys,open-ended questioning, and observation of subjects or records. Methods used to gain quantitative data are statistical analysis and numerical data collection. One quantitative research study investigated he relationship of job satisfaction and burnout amongst counselor educators. Although this study relied on participant data such as participant’s feelings, emotions, job satisfaction, and personal accomplishment the study did so in a manner that used a numbered scale to measure each category. Once this numbered scale was used for all participants the numerical results were then calculated and used to come to a supported conclusion (Sangganjanavanich, 2013).
