Part 1: Consultancy Report Introduction Ethical Problems Causing Uber’s Poor Image The entry of Uber into the taxi business globally caused a tectonic shift in the general modes of production as the “gig” economy was born. The newly born app industry revolved around the idea of crowd sourcing, in the case of Uber it involves the ride sharing options. However, the introduction of new production method in an old market was bound to be characterised by a myriad of problems. In the case of Uber, the problems are evidenced by the high number of scandals that have plagued the company. In the U.K. and around the world, Uber has been facing several problems that have in the end created a bad image of the company. The following are some of the problems that have faced Uber since its entry in the taxi business in the U.K. mostly around London and other large cities. First, Uber has experienced a low employee satisfaction rating. One of the most recurring accusation against Uber is that of exploitation. According to most drivers, the lack of provisions for minimum salaries, insurance, or even unfair dismissal solving mechanisms are just a number of issues affecting Uber. Hei (2018) argues that the lack of the above facilities by the company to its drivers is because Uber does not have employees but contractors. While the above observation is clear cut on paper, most drivers argue that in reality they are treated as normal employees and thus deserve the traditional employment perks. However, the above argument is often contested by the high entry and exit costs affecting the drivers of the taxi-hailing applications. Consequently, drivers have difficult times changing from one application to the other thus causing disgruntled employees.

The other rapport problem that Uber is facing are the sexual complaints. Uber’s Female employees have fronted various complaints regarding the toxic work environment where performance is placed before other critical factors such as gender balance and respect. Furthermore, Uber is also accused that its work environment is harsh and it exposes female drivers to various risks. In addition to female driver complaints, the company has also faced the accusations of sexual assaults against female passengers which eventually affected Uber’s image.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
