Management Concepts for Success 2 MGT/521 Week One Concepts and Applications Worksheet Name Rayne Stephan Concept Summarize (50-75 words per response) Cite Question Apply (50-75 words per response) Definition of manageme nt Management is defined as the coordination and organization of achieving specific objectives through planning, leading, directing, and controlling the work of employees while utilizing the organizations resources. A good manager works hard to achieve these objectives both efficiently and effectively. However, most organizations will tend to choice efficiently over effectively a choice is required. [Kin16] How can you apply the definition of management to better perform in your job? When reading the definition of management I believe that it can be used to better perform in your job by ensuring that when an objective needs to be met, you make sure that you use the best resources your organization has. Also, you want to confirm with your employees that they fully understand what the objective is and how they can best contribute to it. The functions of manageme nt There are four functions of management consist of Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling. Planning consists of setting goals and deciding how they can be achieved. Organizing, or arranging your tasks to best complete the goals of the organization. Leading, a manager must motivate their staff to work hard towards goals. Finally, we reach the last function, controlling by monitoring employee’s performances and comparing to the tasks created to accomplish the organizations goals. [Sim11] How can you apply the functions of management to be more efficient and effective in integrating your MBA pursuit with work and family? The functions of management can be used to work more efficient and effectively working towards your MBA and maintain a work and family life balance. At the beginning of each week review the designated tasks and plan out how you can best fit in personal, professional and educational plans.
