Sophomore Research Project (SRP) SRP 1 Spring 2016 English 2 The Challenge and Charge of American Literature Directions: Read the following essay topics on page 3 and select one to write a typed, 3-4 page essay. To complete this, you must use the proper MLA ESSAY format as well as follow all the requirements listed below. Various parts of this essay are due in class as well as on online. Anything you print will also go on your website, so scans and JPEGs of your process are vital (again, if applicable). All due dates are final and you have ample time in class to work. You will have additional Hacker work that is vital for the essay as well as the final. The final due date of the essay is June 7th 9 pm . The Final Packet is due June 8th 8 a.m. Be sure to follow the calendar, give yourself plenty of time for process, research, writing, editing and more writing. You have done all but two of our requirements, so over the next weeks we will refine what you know about essays and MLA and reading literature and criticism. Requirements: 1. IN GENERAL: Essay: You will research an approved topic of your choice ,* honing your research, summary, response, and synthesis writing skills during the process. To do this, you will complete the following in your essay: This essay must be 4-5 pages long. In all respects, including page set-up, margins, page headers, heading, creative title, indentation, quotation style, in-text citations, works cited, etc., you must follow Modern Language Association (MLA) format. 2. RESEARCH NOTES and OUTLINING: Using CNs collect and conduct research on biographical information and historical context for the writer(s). CNs will be TYPED, and will serve as an ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY of sorts (don’t do this early...I will simplify it). 5-6 SOURCES NEEDED ( HUCK FINN and PH DO NOT COUNT AS SOURCES ). PDFs will be saved to your google folder (good idea to start organizing your folder now). 3. THESIS: Fill out a THESIS WORKSHOP to jumpstart your ideas and to consider of the possibilities of this project.
