Module 07 Discussion – standard precautions over sterile precautions When would you use standard precautions over sterile precautions while taking care of your patient and why? Standard precautions are taken during the patient care to prevent the spread of infections for health care workers. It assumes that every person in the hospital setting is prone to get infected with an organism that can be transmitted in the healthcare settings. The non-intact skin infections, secretions, excretions, blood, body fluids, and the mucous membrane can cause infection by transmitting the agent (Huskins WC, 2014). Thus, standard precautions are taken to ensure safety for every individual within the health care setting while in sterile only the patient safety is considered in the operating room.
